MaxMine: unlocking Australian mining’s full potential with AI and Data

Saving millions of dollars while cutting emissions and boosting safety? Yes, it’s possible.

Australian mining tech company MaxMine is bringing its cutting-edge technology solutions to the Asia-Pacific’s International Mining Expo (AIMEX)’s Transformative Technology Showcase, from 23-25 September at Adelaide Showground, demonstrating how smart tech can drive productivity, enhance safety and accelerate sustainability for open-pit mine sites.

Some of the success stats are spectacular:

  • One mine moved 612,000 tons of additional material/year without incurring any extra costs
  • At a Queensland site, MaxMine’s investigations led to a 97% reduction in safety non-compliances
  • Another operator saw a 75% reduction in tyre expenditure

MaxMine’s technology works by leveraging mining data through advanced AI, IoT and analytics. The company holds the mining industry’s most complete data set on haul truck operations, with exclusive access to over 14 million hours of highly granular operational data, gathered from mine sites via MaxMine’s own hardware, putting them in a unique position within the market.

This data generates valuable insights into mining operations, demonstrating how the best haul truck operators use less fuel, yet are more productive than the average.

MaxMine estimates that by optimising driver and operator performance and behaviour, the average open-pit mine can reduce its carbon Scope 1 footprint by up to 20%, reducing its carbon footprint by around 30,000 tonnes per year.

That’s in addition to cost savings from reduced fuel consumption, minimised tyre wear and reduced accident rates.

Consider that the average fleet of forty trucks costs over AU$150 million in maintenance annually and moves around a billion dollars’ worth of ore. Simply slowing operators on corner speeds and improving tyre life can save several million dollars a year, given the average set of tyres costs around $300,000.

MaxMine works with leading mining companies such as NRW Holdings, MacMahon, First Quantum Minerals and Kinross Gold. For an industry facing immense pressure to cut costs and decarbonise while also increasing output – and all this against a backdrop of declining ore grades and rising fuel prices – MaxMine believes that its advanced technology holds the answer.

It’s more than just software: MaxMine also delivers integrated operational coaching that drives real behavioural change on site. Its platform is designed for easy integration with existing systems and delivers fast, low-risk implementation across diverse commodities and geographies.
