Mining has been responsible for shaping Australian history and continues to be a significant contributor to the economy.
Community engagement and collaboration enables the industry to thrive with mining heavy-weights discussing the image of industry at AIMEX this year. How the mining sector and the community work more collaboratively together in the future will be addressed on the on the opening day of AIMEX at 11:15am.
This session will explore ways in which mining companies can engage more collaboratively in regional and rural areas. The panel will discuss how the mining sector can demonstrate the value they offer communities and what engagement with these communities look like.
Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from Mark Jacobs, executive general manager Yancoal, who has successfully led some of Yancoal’s most significant and ambitious approval and modification projects. Professor Anna Littleboy, programme leader University of Queensland, is a professional research fellow in minerals and society who leads multidisciplinary initiatives linking social, environmental and technical performance for the minerals industry.
Dr Kieran Moffat, chief executive officer and co-founder of Reflexivity, who has helped mining companies and communities develop deeper levels of trust and Ngaire Baker, external relations manager Mach Energy, who has worked in some of Australia’s most remote mining locations over the past 30 years and has extensive experience in stakeholder and community management.
The session will be chaired by Christine Gibbs-Stewart, chief executive officer Austmine, who will draw on her considerable experience within the METS sector to deliver a robust and open discussion on what it means to hold a social license to operate and how understanding the needs of all parties can create positive outcomes for all concerned.
AIMEX will run from the August 27-29 at Sydney Olympic Park and will feature a comprehensive conference program alongside an exhibition that will host more than 500 suppliers from around the world.
