The Bloomfield Group is a Hunter Valley-based company specialising in the mining and engineering services industry. Australian owned and operated, the company has a rich history, beginning operations in 1937 and as of today employs approximately 500 people.
The company operates two open cut coal mines – the Rix’s Creek (North, South, and West Pit) at Singleton and Bloomfield Colliery at East Maitland. Its engineering businesses include Four Mile Engineering at East Maitland and Kings Engineering in Rutherford and Lithgow.
Their more recent acquisition of Rix’s Creek North has provided a strong boost to the Hunter Valley economy after the business hired almost 100 extra people for their operations including supervisory staff, environmental officers, operators and electrical and mechanical tradesmen.
Bloomfield credits its continued success down to sound growth, innovation and ensuring the well-being of its people, all encompassed in its vision and values. Since commencing operations in NSW - 80 years ago, Bloomfield has had a significant commitment to the safety, welfare standards and overall well-being of its employees. For example, Bloomfield miners are rostered for 8-hour shifts instead of the typical 12 and the mines shutdown over Christmas and Easter ensuring a fair work-life balance.
Innovation has always been a focal point for The Bloomfield Group and it holds interests in companies specialising in renewable energies, recycling and biofuel production . This commitment to innovation will be showcased in a case study presentation taking place at the AIMEX Future of Mining Conference. This session will be presented by John Richards, Chairman of the Bloomfield Group and will provide great insight in to the role innovation and collaboration has played in their success.
