Australian mining contractor Mancala launching new underground products at AIMEX

02 Sep 2011

Mancala Group, which offers a variety of mining services and which is continually developing its capabilities in raise boring, will be releasing a number of new products for underground mining applications on Stand SL139 during AIMEX – Asia-Pacific’s International Mining Exhibition 2011, to be held at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush, from September 6-9.

These new products include Mancala’s just released boxhole borer/vertical miner, the MVM1100, and a Flame Proof Power Pack (FPPP) for its raise-borers, designed to comply with all underground coal mining safety and electrical requirements.

The MVM1100 vertical miner, which was designed and built in association with Herrenknecht in Germany, is for underground mine applications including slot rise/box holes, escape rises and as a production tool in narrow veins. The design of the new MVM1100 has been developed based on field-proven pipe jacking method.

According to the company, this innovative technology increases both safety and productivity – resulting in considerable time savings compared with conventional drill and blast operations or other existing methods.

Slot hole diameters of up to 1 m and lengths of up to 30 m are possible. The technology to increase these capabilities to 1.5 m diameters and 60 m lengths will become available in 2012.

The first of these machines has recently arrived in Australia and is scheduled to start operating at a mine in Central Western NSW in the coming weeks.

Also being released at AIMEX 2011 is the Flame Proof Power Pack, designed to operate safely in underground coal mines.

It can be used in-conjunction with Mancala’s 61R, SBM450, SBM600, SBM71R and SBM900 raise-bore rigs.

It incorporates a purpose-designed maintenance system to comply with coal mine site requirements throughout Australia, along with a methane monitoring system allowing it to be used in face areas or uncut coal. The FPPP has also been designed to comply with the latest standards for mine environmental safety.

Key Mancala personnel will be on site to discuss these newly released products and other services the company provides throughout AIMEX. In the case of the FPPP, a representative from the manufacturer, UGM, will also be on the stand.
