Despite the mining industry investing ever greater amounts in planning and ERP systems, short term plans become ever more complex and rigid.  What the industry desperately needs are not more ‘disembodied voices down the speaking tubes', but flexible and effective planning systems that encourage people to make reasonable commitments to each other so that everyone can work as a coordinated team to complete the work planned for the shift.

This session will look at shift planning and short interval control systems which has been developed at the Oaky Creek and Moranbah North coal mines in Central Queensland.  Fewzion has drawn on management theory embodied in Management Operating Systems (MOS), Lean, Theory of Constraints & Six Sigma approaches to continuous improvement to play a key role in both mines achieving record-breaking tonnages.

Case studies will be presented to describe how  Oaky Creek improved monthly meters by 34% in two months and has exceeded its monthly budget each month since and Anglo's Moranbah North which has won ‘Coal Mine of the Year’ two out of the last three years and improved longwall production by 39% in 2014/15.
