Mancala’s commitment to being a leader in mining engineering and technology is witnessed by the development of a new raise boring machine. This machine has adapted the techniques used in tunnel boring and pipe jacking to create a blind borer. It has been developed in conjunction with the specialist manufacturer Herrenknecht. The new box hole borer has the capacity to drill vertical and inclined up holes of 1metre diameter and up to 60 metres long. Applications include boring of box holes, slot raises and other vertical mine development. It is self-propelled, can work in limited head room and does not require concrete foundations. We see a significant application for the borer will be as a narrow vein mining tool. It will add value by enabling focused extraction of the ore zone with minimum dilution.
