Jonathon Ralston is a Principal Research Engineer with the CSIRO where he currently leads the Remote Mining research team within the Energy’s Coal Mining Research Program. His major focus is the delivery of innovative research solutions to promote transformational change in the mining industry.  

Jonathon’s mining experience with the CSIRO spans almost 20 years. His core R&D expertise includes guidance and navigation, teleoperated and robotic mining, resource sensing and mapping, statistical signal processing, and high-integrity integrated architectures. He has contributed to highly successful automation projects including LASC longwall shearer automation, self-steering continuous miners and automated highwall guidance systems, which have led to step changes in safety and productivity for the Australian mining industry.

His current focus is the advancement of integrated roadway development systems and the development of systems technologies to achieve fully automated longwall operations.
